The Minna Depot fire incident in Niger State is a minor challenge that is already being repaired, the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said.

According to Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, of NNPC, Tumini Green, the fire, which affected Tank 102 at the Depot, was minor and was promptly brought under control without any major damage due to the effectiveness of the firefighting equipment and the efficiency of the fire fighters.

“The NNPC, as a responsible corporate organization, places premium on safety of life and equipment in all aspects of its operations,” Green said.

“The management of NNPC can emphatically state that there is adequate water supply and storage at the Minna Depot with four functional Industrial Boreholes, while the Fire Water Pumps, Fire Hydrant, Tank Sprinkler system, and the Foam Pourer are all in perfect condition at the time of the fire incident. These facilities aided to extinguish the fire.”

Green added that Tank 102 had over 8.5 million litres of PMS at the time of the incident, saying that the availability of firefighting equipment, agents and the gallantry of NNPC personnel at the Depot saved the situation.

“It is a universal practice to call for assistance during such incident, which warranted the assistance of the Niger State Fire Service,” she said, advising the general public against engaging in panic buying/hoarding, as “this will not affect PMS distribution to the region either now or in the near future.”
