Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei escaped assassination on Saturday, Huhuonline.com can confirm.However, a female aide to one of the speaker’s associates was not so lucky, as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded and critically injured her.
The left an ankle of the victim, an indigene of Obomkpa in Aniocha North local government of the state where the incident occurred, was dismembered. She was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, after which she was referred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara to avoid the possibility of amputation.
Ochei was on a routine familiarisation and thank-you tour of his Aniocha North constituency when an explosion at Eke Market Square left everyone scuttling to safety. The IED was believed to have been propelled from the rear of the front-row seat of the speaker, who was still busy exchanging pleasantries at the time.
The chairs that stood in the way of the explosion were shattered; and the Police have already announced the arrest of a suspect who is an indigene of neighbouring Ugboba town.
