A report on the death of erstwhile Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd) in a London hospital has been disclaimed by his brother, Chief Joseph Alemon Akhigbe.
Expressing shock over the “wide speculation”, Alemon denounced the death as well as the claim that it occurred in a London hospital.
“As I speak to you now the newspaper’s report in my opinion is a pure speculation,” Alemon said. “The paper said he died in a London hospital but my brother is in a United States hospital stabiliing.”
He said Augustus’s wife, son-in-law and daughter are with him in the US while other members of the family have been in touch with the former General’s wife.
“She confirmed to family members that Admiral Akhigbe is stabilising in America”, he reiterated. “The news of his death is totally untrue. Even his younger brother, Aselenmen Akhigbe, spoke with him on telephone at about 5: 00am today. People should learn not to play with false and unconfirmed reports about death of others.”
Akhigbe, best remembered for serving as Vice President in the military regime of General Abdusalami Abubakar from 1998 to 1999, has been out of the country for several months to receive medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment that a section of the media erroneously reported to have claimed his life on Sunday.
Despite family`s denial of his demise, huhuonline.com can confirm that Rear Admiral Mike Okhai Akhigbe is dead. He died in a New York Hospital, after a protracted battle with cancer.
