The proposed national dialogue will work in the interest of all Nigerians and the development of the country, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue, Senator Femi Okurounmu has said.
Speaking in Calabar on Friday during a courtesy call on Ndidem of the Quas and Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, Dr. Thomas Ika Ika Oqua, he explained that the 13-man committee set up by the president for the national conference would listen to the agitations of the people and use them to formulate agenda for the national dialogue.
“The government does not want to impose anything on the people,” Okurounmu assured. “That is why the committee is set up to hear the views of Nigerians.”
Speaking during his own welcome address, Oqua promised to support the proposed national dialogue as it is in the interest of national unity, and urged all Nigerians to follow suit.
He implored the presidential committee to involve the people very well in its assignment, and thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for initiating the national dialogue to hear the views of all Nigerians on nation-building issues.
The committee is currently in Calabar for the South-South Zonal Conference on the national dialogue, where people, delegates and interest groups from Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross River made presentations.
