The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said that it will perform a joint audit of domestic airlines to determine their technical and financial state of health.

According to Director-General of NCAA, Captain Fola Akinkuotu who was speaking on Monday during a briefing at the Aviation House, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, the audit is a part of the country’s resolve to boost safety of the country’s airways.

Akinkuotu said NCAA would promptly shut down any airline owing salaries of its workers, while insisting on testing every domestic carrier by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) through its International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“This will help reinforce safety as the core focus of the industry,” he said. “NCAA demands that all operators must sit up. We will continue to engage domestic operators to do what is right. They have a responsibility to comply with the rules and avoid lapses that will expose the industry to emergencies.”

He assured that his organisation would intensify efforts towards improving safety in the aviation industry and restore the confidence of the flying public in it.
