The Ogun State Government has described its cashless policy as a major trigger for the increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from higher institutions in the state by more than 198 per cent.

Speaking with members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the start of budget performance monitoring of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Ajibola Chokor recalled that government adopted the policy in August 2012 in the institutions to block leakages and promote accountability and transparency.

According to Ajibola, this same policy has been introduced in different MDAs since January to improve revenue generation, while revenue monitoring interventions initiated by the ministry have also contributed to the noticeable increase in the state government’s revenue generation.

She also disclosed advanced plans for the implementation of the Land Use and Amenities Charge Bill just passed by the Assembly, to be quickly followed up by enforcement of compliance on approval for building and title document.

Chairman of the committee, which also visited the Ministry of Budget and Planning and the State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Olusola Bankole expressed satisfaction with the budget performance of all the MDAs.
