The Lagos State Government on Friday warned residents of the state to avoid going close to the Bar Beach located on the Victoria Island area of the state.
A resident of the state drowned during the recent Eid-el–Fitri celebration despite several warnings by the state government.
Issuing a fresh warning on Friday, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Lagos Bar Beach, Mr. Effiong Ekanem reiterated that the government has not lifted the restriction on the sand area of the beach to fun seekers, as the sand is sinking.
Speaking with journalists in Lagos, Ekanem disclosed that the management of the beach, in collaboration with Eti-Osa Local Government, gave the restriction order to ensure the safety of residents who always love to visit the place for fun.
“The beach is still a construction site due to the ongoing construction of the Eko Atlantic City,” he said. “Therefore, the sand area at the beach is not safe for fun seekers. Fun seekers are only allowed to stay at the pavement area, while enjoying the sea breeze and the serene environment around the beach.”
Ekanem said the state was working very hard to ensure that the beach becomes safe again.
“No resident of the state should be found around the beach; security personnel and lifeguards are on ground to ensure safety at the beach,” he added. “I believe that at the end of the construction of the Eko Atlantic City, normal activities will resume at the beach.”
