Officials of the Nigeria Police on Thursday disrupted the launch of a secretariat belonging to the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, sealing it off.
The secretariat was opened after Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor, Tony Okocha led other members of the State Executive Council (SEC) and loyalists of the governor to address a media briefing.
The policemen arrived at the secretariat on Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, just as the party’s flag was to be hoisted.
This follows last Saturday’s similar sealing off of the national secretariat of the faction of the party notwithstanding the court ruling compelling both factions to maintain status quo.
The sealing off of the national secretariat prompted loyalists of the Abubakar Baraje faction to start opening secretariats for various state chapters of the breakaway faction.
As at the last count, Baraje’s faction now has chapters in Kaduna and Bayelsa States, the home states of Vice President Namadi Sambo and President Goodluck Jonathan.
