An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a Nigerian actress, Nancy Ndukwe, 26, to two months imprisonment for stealing an Ipad, an Iphone and jewellery worth N190, 000.

Ms. Ndukwe, who was a resident of Jikwoyi in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria confessed in court that she actually stole the items from her friend. Her confession was responsible for the light sentence by the court.

Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo told the court that the owner of the items, one Faith Njoku of Kapuwa Village, Lugbe, Abuja reported the case at the Lugbe Police Station on September 2 and that the items were found n the woman when she was searched.

Quoting Ndukwe, Anigbo said Njoku had visited her friend on the said date and stole the items, Ipad worth N100, 000, an Iphone worth N50, 000 and jewellery worth N40, 000.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code. The self-acclaimed actress pleaded guilty to the charge and appealed to the court for mercy, saying she was pushed into stealing the items due to frustration as she needed to take care of her one-year old son.

“I stole the items due to frustration,” she told the court. “I have a one-year old son to cater for. I am sorry and I promise not to do such again.”

Magistrate, Mr. Celestine Odo handed her a two-month jail term or an option of a fine of N6, 000.
