The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Monday elected Willie Obiano as its candidate for the governorship election to be held on November 16 in Anambra State.

Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Martin Agbaso, who announced Obiano, an Executive Director with Fidelity Bank Plc as winner of the primary election said he polled 817 votes out of a total votes cast of 1,076.

Agbaso also announced a member of the House of Representatives, Uche Ekwunife, as coming second with 150 votes, while Paul Odenigbo came a distant third with 49 votes.

Others include Emeka Nwogbo, 22 votes; John Nwosu, 18 votes; John Emeka, one vote. Sixteen votes were voided.

The party had disqualified former Governor of Central Bank, Prof. Charles Soludo and some others. Soludo had since gone to court to challenge the decision of the party he joined barely two months before the exercise.

Patrick Obianwu had stepped down for Obiano, saying he did it to keep the dream of Anambra North zone of producing the next governor alive. John Emeka’s withdrawal was turned down. Obiano hailed the exercise and expressed satisfaction with the conduct.
