Governor of taraba State, Danbaba Suntai has recovered enough to return to Nigeria, his wife, Hauwa, has said.
Suntai, who sustained severe brain injuries in a plane crash in October 2012, was transferred to the View Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and Home located in New York with his health remaining a source of worry and controversy ever since.
While some of his colleagues who visited him in a hospital abroad claimed he was fast recovering, many other Nigerians thought the claim was aimed at solidifying his retention of his governor post against all odds.
Speaking from the hospital where her husband has been receiving treatment since the incident, Hauwa said arrangements had been concluded for the man to return to Nigeria. She also thanked Nigerians for their support throughout the governor’s trying period.
It would be recalled that some governors had visited him months ago, while on August 3, members of the PDP Fact-finding Committee on the Taraba Political Situation, led by its chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma paid him a solidarity visit.
Their visit became important following the controversies that trailed his health status and the battle for his position, which was later occupied by his deputy in acting capacity.
Senator Uzodinma was accompanied by Special Adviser to the PDP National Chairman on INEC and Inter-party Affairs, Shittu Mohammed; Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak; Abubakar Gada; and Consul-General of Nigeria in New York, Habib Habu, who all expressed satisfaction with his status.
