The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered two new political parties in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended) and the Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended).
According to a statement released by Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. A. C. Ogakwu, the newly registered parties are the Independent Democrats (ID) and the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).
“The Constitution, Manifesto, Logo/Flag and list of National Executive Officers of each party have also been approved by the Commission,” the statement added.
The latter party is believed to have been spearheaded by former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and some aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors.
While Atiku has since issued a public statement to deny floating the party, saying he would remain a PDP man for a long time to come, he admitted that some of his closes political associates are the brains behind the party
