A total of N186m went into the coffers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from a total of 26 aspirants who indicated interest in contesting the November 2013 governorship election in Anambra State.

Each of the 26 aspirants paid N1m to obtain the expression of interest form, which meant N26m for the party. But by the close of submission of nomination form of Monday, only 17 of them had the N10m required for form, amounting to another N170m.

The 10 who submitted the nomination form are Senator Andy Uba, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Akachukwu Nwankpo, Sylvester Okonkwo, Obinna Uzor, Charles Odunukwe, Jerry Ugokwe, Senator Emmanuel Anosike and Mrs. Josephine Anenih among others.

Nine others could not pay the N10 million nomination fee. Consequently, they have been excluded from the screening exercise.

As at press time on Tuesday, the 17 aspirants were still undergoing screening at the party secretariat by a five- man committee, headed by Alhaji Aminu Wali, with zoning and consensus option the two contentious issues pitting the party leadership against the aspirants.

Some aspirants agree with the decision of the party leadership on zoning but majority of them prefer a level playing field for all.
