Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has described his suspension by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) as “irrelevant.”
In a statement released by Mr. Chinedu Offor, his media assistant on Sunday in Owerri, Okorocha urged people of the state to remain calm and be law-abiding.
Offor added that the governor is currently in the U.S. for a town hall meeting, organised by Imo indigenes at Atlanta, Georgia.
Okorocha was suspended on Saturday as punishment for his active involvement in the merger talks that eventually produced the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Announcing the suspension after a meeting in Abuja, the National Executive Council of the party accused him of anti-party activities, for associating with the APC.
“The NEC also unanimously resolved to dissolve the Imo Executive Committee of APGA with immediate effect,” stated the communiqué read at the end of the NEC meeting by Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi, APGA’s National Vice Chairman (South-West).
The party also announced the dissolution of the State Executive Committee of APGA in Imo, saying “a 21-member caretaker committee shall be appointed to run the affairs of the party in Imo pending the conduct of the state congress.”
