Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Leyii Kwanee has spoken against the summoning of Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd by the Force Headquarters while some of the legislators who were equally involved in the brigandage have been overlooked.

Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Kwanee argued that it was only appropriate for the Police to invite all those who were involved in the fracas. The lawyer representing Khana Constituency 2 in the State Assembly condemned the selective approach where Lloyd alone was singled out, and advised the Police to carry out an unbiased investigation, as any contrary action of the Police would portray them in bad light in Rivers State.

“If they want to do a thorough work, they should carry out an unbiased investigation,” he said. “The people of Rivers State are seeing the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mbu as being partial and the invitation of Hon. Lloyd selectively is a confirmation that the entire Police Force are acting to script.”

Hon. Kwanee who is also Chairman, Parlaimentary Exchange and Mentorship Programme of the Pan-African Parliament, urged the Police to maintain neutrality in the interest of the country’s nascent democracy.

He then appealed to supporters of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of provocation, saying “persistent adherence to the rule of law is our contribution to avoid the breaking down of law and order; and in the end, peace and sanity will be restored.”
