Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has warned the five northern state governors believed to be supporters of Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi that they will not succeed in their plot to oust the president.

Governors Sule Lamido, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aliyu Wamakko, Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu and Murtala Nyako had threatened to bury the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the crisis currently engulfing it is not amicably resolved.

“We have held consultations with former heads of state on the need for them and other major stakeholders to save the party from dying,” Governor Nyako wrote in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sajoh Ahmed.

“We will continue to make our efforts to save the party. But if our efforts do not work, we have no alternative than to fold our arms, and see PDP die and help in burying it.”

But reacting to the statement, Gulak challenged the five governors on the possibility of their breaking the party, saying the governor’s would fail in their bid to eject President Goodluck Jonathan from office.

“They (the governors) cannot bury PDP, as the party is above them,” he said. “Their agenda is not to bury PDP but to get President Goodluck Jonathan out but they will certainly fail. I can assure you that all those in that group and sharing their agenda will also fail woefully, as Nigerians are wiser.”

The governors had been under fire since visiting Amaechi in Port Harcourt last week, during which youths believed to be loyal to political forces opposed to tlater moved to the country home of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, e governor staged a protest and delayed their exit from the airport by some hours. From Port Harcourt, they headed to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they met erstwhile President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida had commended the courage of the governors, describing them as “real patriots” of the country.

“I just want to commend the governors and some of their colleagues,” he said. “I am very impressed because they see the problems of this country as their problems and they have taken the right steps to make sure that they consult widely in trying to find solutions to some of the nagging problems. It shows they are real patriots and I am very happy with them.”
