The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a Corporal Amadi Idahosa over the death of a final year student of the University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu.

Amadi, whose dismissal was announced after an orderly room trial and will now face prosecution at the law court, was an orderly to Chief Superintendent of Police and Divisional Police Officer of Ogida Police Station where Ibrahim was killed, Mrs. Carol Afegbai. Afegbai.

Amadi was found to have pulled the trigger on Ibrahim, although Afegbai leapt in his defence by claiming instead that she actually shot Ibrahim on the legs.

Reacting to the dismissal, Jefferson Uwoghiren, the family’s lawyer said the trial and dismissal of Amadi Idahosa is a preface to the ultimate action against him and his cohorts for the premeditate murder of Ibrahim Momodu.

After he was killed on May 27, the Police buried his remains at the 3rd Cemetery, but the corpse was exhumed after public insistence on a post-mortem to determine the cause of his death, which eventually revealed that he was shot three times in the back.

The Edo State Government rejected legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) that would have led to prosecution for murder, saying it was devoid of adequate evidence. Edo State Attorney-General, Henry Idahagbon, therefore returned the case file to DPP for further investigation. However, the Police has said it would fight any form of injustice in the matter.

“The matter is already being investigated and justice must be done,” spokesman for the Police, Moses Eguaveon said. “Whoever that is exonerated will be discharged. The public should watch out for justice.”
