Editor: The recent acquittal of Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha by the Court of Appeal in Lagos is very interesting and so, smarting up from the initial jolt, I thought the whole scenario smacks of political hypocrisy, akin only to the Biblical Barabbas, who was set free in the “Kangaroo Amnesty”, granted him in a case of cutting the nose to spite the face, just to nail the “King of the Jews”, Jesus Christ.
Honestly, while the entire detail of what the prosecution did or did not do is still sketchy now, it does appear that the entire judicial process has completely turned logic on its head! Could it be that he was incarcerated for 14 years without committing the offence? What new evidence(s) did the defense counsel file? What is the new role of UPN sponsors, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the leader of the OPC, currently rumoured as having some juicy N2.4b contract to protect pipeline in all of this, seeing Fasehun with the “free bird”, Al-Mustapha?
Could it be part of a grand design by the powers that be, to cause disaffection in the newly promoted political party, APC with the Southwest in their “hand shake” with the North? These are questions begging for answers.
One thing that should not be toyed with is the need for the dead, Mrs. Kudirat Abiola and indeed all those felled by the bullets of the then junta of Gen Abacha, to get justice, and therefore bringing those perpetrators, who are still alive to book. The International Criminal Court still tries and convicts those who perpetrated crimes against humanity till date. Must we always ridicule our country all the time?
The time to act is now, let justice flow like stream, and righteousness like a river (Amos 5:21). Everyone that desires justice should question this judgment, because no one knows who the next victim will be.
