Prominent Nollywood actress and brand sweetheart, Funke Akindele has finally opened up on her crashed marriage with her husband, just a little over one year after they tied the knot.
The actress had reportedly gone into hiding after the story broke with her husband and socialite, Kehinde Oloyede posting the message of the breakup on Facebook.
She was later reported to have denied that she broke up with the man and even threatened to sue some of the media houses that published the story.
But Ayo Ola-Muhammed, the principal consultant of NEECEE Entertainment, the outfit managing her account, confirmed the report on her behalf in a terse statement on Friday.
“On behalf of our client, star actress, Funke Akindele, we want to formally inform you that after due consultation and consideration, she’s now separated from Kehinde Oloyede as his wife,” the statement read.
“She hereby urges her fans and all concerned to pray and wish her the best as she moves on in her career. Kindly note that this is the first and only official statement from Funke Akindele on the matter, and will be glad if her wish is respected. Thank you.”
Huhuonline.com had reported the breakup, but Akindele, an actress and producer, popularly called Jenifer, claimed it was a lie.
Her husband had posted: “It is with heavy heart that I am announcing the separation of me and my wife, Mrs Olufunke Akindele. We have both agreed to go our separate ways because of irreconcilable differences. We are still best of friends and we would forever remain good friends.”
Akindele had rebuffed advice from friends, family and fans not to go ahead with the marriage, based on the number of children that Oloyede has from other women.
The embattled couple organised a talk-of-the-town wedding, which lasted days. Apart from the engagement, the couple had traditional, Islamic and white weddings.
It was learnt that the marriage began experiencing the symptoms of failure just months after the wedding.
Akindele is a brand ambassador to several organisations, including telecommunications giant, Globacom, Vita Foam and the Lagos State Government.
