A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has ordered the police to vacate the Obior/Akpor Local government secretariat in Rivers State, Nigeria.
The court gave the directive on Monday morning.
Penultimate week, Police sealed off the council secretariat under the pretext that that some thugs had planned to storm the place following the sacking of the council chairman, Prince Timothy Nsirim, and other principal officers.
Subsequently the Caretaker Committee of the council proceeded to the Federal High court to seek for an order that will allow them access to the secretariat.
Huhuonline.com gathered that inspite of the court order there was still a strong presence of armed policemen at the secretariate as at press time.
The Assembly which is loyal to Governor Amaechi had sacked the Obior/Akpor Local government Chairman and set up a caretaker committee. While the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, loyal to the presidency, condemned the suspension and instead suspended the state lawmakers.
