Erstwhile Chief Press Secretary to former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has been kidnapped in Lagos.

Bamigbetan is currently Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of the state. His kidnappers, who have made contact with the victim’s family, are said to be demanding $1m ransom.

He was said to have been attacked by unknown gunmen while he was close to his house at Ona Iwa Mimo, Ori-Oke in Ejigbo around midnight of Monday and taken away by the abductors. He was returning from an official assignment, according to his driver, Abiodun Olayiwola, who was driving the council chairman in his black SUV with customised registration number ‘Lagos KOK’, when the abductors struck.

It was learnt that on entering his street, the chairman was given a hot chase by the abductors. But his driver hit an electric pole while trying to escape, thereby damaging the vehicle and making it easy for the kidnappers to whisk him away. The matter has been reported at Ejigbo Police Station.

The driver, while explaining how the incident happened, said immediately he sighted the four-man gang who had laid ambush for them, he quickly tried to reverse but the poor state of the road was his undoing.

The driver escaped with injury in his attempt to escape, as the assailants continued shooting sporadically and succeeded in overtaking them when the car hit the electric pole and got seriously damaged.

He said they whisked the chairman away in their vehicle. which he could not identify since it was dark.

At the time of this report, the ACN was yet to comment officially but sources within the party confided in Huhuonline.com that the kidnappers had reached the family and were demanding for the sum of $1 million.

“Where do we get such money from?” the source asked, pleading with the kidnappers to release the victim unhurt.
