Reigning African champions, Nigeria’s Super Eagles stage a remarkable escape in the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers with a stoppage time equalizer to deny the Harambee Stars of Kenya from staging a major upset as the two sides battled to a (1-1) draw at the Calabar UJ Esuene Stadium on Saturday.

The Eagles have been exceptionally inconsistent; splitting its last qualifiers in June 2012, beating Namibia at home (1-0) and drawing away to Malawi (1-1). A mentally strong and confident Harambee Stars opened scores at the 36th minute through Francis Kahata from a scintillating spot kick. The Eagles fought back throwing everything they got but the Kenyans held their grounds until the 93rd minute when Nnamdi Oduamadi rifled home the equalizer from close range.

The Super Eagles are tied with Malawi at the top of Group F with five points each after three matches. Malawi edged Namibia away (1-0) in the other Group F match in Windhoek. Namibia has three points while Kenya tops the group from the bottom with two points.
