At least 198 staff of the National Assembly, including a staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), have been indicted for failing to retire multi-million naira collected for various official duties.

The revelation came in an internal memo with Ref No: NASS/F&A/DDM/420/Vol 2/002, dated 11th March 2013 and signed by Abiola Adebayo, chief Accountant from the Finance and Accounts Department of the National Assembly.

In the memo titled “Re: Retirement of outstanding advances,” Adebayo threatened to sanction defaulters according to extant financial regulations.

“This notice stands as a final warning for staff who have unretired advances, which span through 21/2/2011 to 2012 fiscal year,” a part of the memo read.

“Failure to CLEAR ALL such advances within 10 DAYS will invite the sanctions of management. Such sanctions as contained in the financial regulations are that we shall proceed to deduct such advances from your monthly salary until we recover the advanced funds.”
