Nigerian Muslims must pray for public office holders because the country is bereft of leaders who truly care about the people, erstwhile Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari has said.

Speaking on Thursday at this year’s edition of the annual lecture of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, Masari also urged public office holders to imbibe the vision of the founding fathers of the country, who always placed the collective good of Nigerians above personal interests.

At the conference hall of the National Mosque, Abuja where the event held, the Muslims gathered to reflect on the virtues of a great leader, in consonance with the teachings of Prophet Mohammed.

Asides praying for Nigerian leaders, Masari also called for prayers on the emergence of a new crop of responsible leaders, which the country currently lacks.

Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Abubakar Jijiwa, who is the director-general of Voice of Nigeria (VON) as well as the chairman of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, lamented the series of public misconceptions about Islam.

Also, delivering a lecture titled, The Exemplary Leader, Guest Lecturer, Alhaji Hussein Musa encouraged Muslims to be upright in their ways and to always seek peace and quick resolution of conflicts around them.

Although it held at the Federal Capital Territory, the lecture, the 7th in the series, drew attendance from Muslims both in Abuja outside from other parts of the country.
