Ganiyu Ishola, an ex-Convict from Egyptian Prisons yesterday raised alarm over the imprisonment of hundreds of ignorant Nigerians including students and footballers are languishing in Egyptian prisons.

Ishola, who had been behind bars for 21 years gave the hint during an interactive session with House Committee on Diaspora, headed by Abike Erewa-Dabiri in Abuja.

In his testimony, the sober Ishola warned innocent Nigerians to be wary of human traffickers who allegedly present beautiful propositions to would-be travellers to lure them out of the country.

While stressing the need for Nigerians in Diaspora to shun all forms of crime, he tasked the Federal Government to step up action towards tackling the menace of human traffickers.

“The human traffickers end up spoiling the lives of Nigerian youths under the guise of better living conditions abroad,” he said.

In her reaction, Abike Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians to be wary of traffickers parading themselves as facilitators of foreign jobs. She also urged parents and guardians of the danger of conceding to the seemingly juicy promises of greener pastures to their wards and children in foreign lands.

Dabiri-Erewa charged Nigerians in Diaspora to live within the laws of any country they may find themselves in, adding that anyone who goes against the laws of their resident country should be prepared to pay the penalty for such crimes.
