Suspected vandals have again hit the System 2B pipeline at the Arepo village in Ogun barely two weeks after about 40 vandals got roasted beyond recognition when one of the ruptured pipelines went up in flames.
The Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) confirmed Wednesday’s criminal activity, saying it resulted in an explosion again. This time, however, nobody was affected by the explosion that resulted early in the morning as the PPMC claimed.
According to the unnamed official, the service manager of the pipeline actually called the office confirming “that another round of vandalism has been observed at Arepo along the System 2B in the early hours of Wednesday.”
The management source said law enforcement agents had been mobilised to the area to put off the fire.
Confirming the explosion, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the south west zonal public relations officer of the National Emergency management Agency (NEMA) said his agency had mobilised resources to move to the area to put out the fire.
Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun had, during the last incident, accused officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of masterminding and in some instances aiding the vandals.
He expressed readiness to assist in combating the problem, especially at the Arepo area that has become notorious for pipeline vandalism.
