The Kaduna State Government on Wednesday began the disbursement of N410m to victims of the crisis that erupted after the 2011 general elections, resulting in the killing of several people and destruction of properties in the state.

Governor Mukhtar Yero disbursed cheques of several amounts to the victims, many of whom had been in refugee camps since the calamity. He said the amount would help them kick-start their life again and therefore asked them to vacate the refugee camps.

Governor Yero expressed regrets that many lives and properties were lost during the violence and called for peace. He lamented that during the period, people who had lived together peacefully for decades or even centuries suddenly turned against one another.
