The raging battle of superiority among members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumed a new dimension on Monday with the swearing in of a replacement for embattled National Secretary of the party, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, by National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
Oyinlola a former governor of Osun State who was sacked on Friday by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, was replaced by Deputy National Secretary of the party, Solomon Onwe, in acting capacity, as directed by Tukur in a three-paragraph statement.
According to Tukur, the replacement is with immediate effect.
The statement noted that the national chairman’s action was pursuant to the powers conferred on him by Chapter V Section 35 (1), 35 (1)(b) as well as section 36(2) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, (as amended).
In the statement, which he personally signed, he stated that the deputy national secretary “shall, by this directive, conduct all correspondences of the party, issue notices of meetings of the national convention, the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Caucus and the National Working Committee, as stipulated in the Constitution of our great party.”
Oyinlola has already headed for the Appeal Court where he is seeking reversal of the decision and insisting that his removal from office must be accompanied by Tukur’s removal, since they are both products of the process and circumstance that the court adjudicated over.
