Two people died on Friday and several other vehicles were destroyed in a fire incident that occurred after a fuel tanker caught fire in Ahoada, Rivers State.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), eight people also sustained serious injuries while some houses were razed as a result of the accident.
A total of 11 vehicles, four Motorcycles, 13 shops, 23 makeshift houses, two churches and a mosque were razed in the incident.
The driver of the fully laden petrol tanker, a Mack truck with registration number XS 942 KJA reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which fell, spilled content and burst into flames at the Mbiama Junction, Ahoada bypass at about 08:15 am.
The FRSC also disclosed that a man and a woman were killed while eight other injured persons were rushed to the Okolobiri General Hospital in Bayelsa. The corpses have been handed over to their families for burial.
The Police, Fire Service, FRSC and other security operatives were involved in the rescue, Huhuonline.com learnt.
The FRSC also confirmed that there was no scooping of fuel, but that the incident happened in a location where people were carrying out their businesses, hence the high casualty figure
