With residents of Lagos State beginning to question the ability of the Lagos State government to effectively fund the N499.105bn budget for 2013 as passed by the state’s House of Assembly, Governor of the, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has started setting targets for all the state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The House had increased it to the current amount before passing the budget, which was originally N497.277bn as presented to the Assembly by the governor.
Governor Fashola, who signed the budget into law last Monday, gave the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) the highest target of generating the sum of N253.2bn to the government as part of the 2013 budget.
The state government, which also expects to generate N16.06bn from housing and community amenities, has given the Lands Bureau a target of N12.2bn.
The entire transport sector is to generate N6.58bn, out of which N1.2bn is to be generated by the state Ministry of Transportation; N4.5bn is to be generated by the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) while the State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is to generate N405m.
From the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the state is targeting the sum of N3.48bn for 2013, out of which the state Building Control Authority (LABCA) has been allocated a target of N1.2bn and the State Planning Permit Authority (LASPPA) is to rake in N1.29bn.
The state Judiciary was also given a target of N1.56bn and Ministry of Finance N4.5bn. Breaking this down, the state government gave the State Treasury Office (STO) the sum of N605m as target while the sum of N59bn is expected from the Federal Government as statutory allocation. The sum of N58bn is expected from Value Added Tax (VAT).
Huhuonline.com can report that the state government expects the sum of N1.84bn from Public Order and Safety, N2.78m from the Ministry of Information and Strategy, and N117.6m from the Ministry of Establishment and Training.
The Ministry of the Environment is to generate N2.38bn, Ministry of Commerce and Industry N148.6m and the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives N230m.
In addition, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure is to generate N1.5bn while the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development is expected to generate N1.5bn.
