Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, who was hospitalized last Friday in Abuja after a ghastly auto crash, left the hospital on Wednesday for his private house after spending New Year’s Day in hospital.
Speaking with reporters who accompanied President Goodluck Jonathan on a get-well 1visit to the hospital earlier, Chief Medical Director, Cedar Cross Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Ogedengbe had said Wada’s health had improved tremendously. He also informed that the governor was doing well after surgery and will be discharged from hospital “in a couple of days.”
“The governor is already doing step-climbing. He is doing very well at the moment. You know it was a severe injury. We have continued to watch out for any other problem that he might have. But, at this stage, we have not seen any other problem at all,” he said.
“From the medical point of view, he is quite healthy and he should be ready to go back home in a couple of days. I can only at this stage tell you that he will be ready to go back home in a few days, but I won’t be able to tell you specifically which day that is. He is not going to be in the hospital for weeks; he does not need to be here for that long.”
True to the doctor’s word, the governor left the hospital on Wednesday. But his discharge does not mean he has suddenly recovered fully. Sources say there have been concerns over his security in a small hospital, and this might have warranted his early discharge. It was also said that the president’s visit further exposed the hospital, as it has received a large number of very important personalities thereafter.
Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Strategy, Jacob Edi, corroborated this claim, saying the governor’s security at the hospital was not guaranteed but God would keep him.
“The governor underwent surgery for the broken bone in his thigh and the surgery was successful,” he said. “He has been receiving high-profile visitors, and, apparently to cap it up, is the visit of the president.”
He also confirmed that the governor would not be flown abroad for further medical treatment because he received adequate attention at the hospital.
During President Jonathan’s visit, the governor was seen smiling as he showed his guest his body and broken leg after the two exchanged handshakes and pleasantries.
Governor Wada was moved to the hospital on Saturday from Emi Woro Village, where his Lexus SUV jeep crashed, killing his Aide-de-Camp, Idris Muhammed, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on the spot.
