Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State is in a stable condition and would not be flown abroad for treatment, the Medical Director of Cedar Crest hospital, Dr. Felix Ogedengbe, has told huhuonline.com.

Wada, who was rushed to the hospital on Friday night suffered a broken thigh and he has since undergone surgery.

Governor Wada’s convoy, was involved in a ghastly motor accident on Friday afternoon at Emi Woro Village , about 12 kilometres into the state capital ,in between Prime Polytechnic and Salem University, in Ajaokuta Local Government, killing his ADC, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP), Idris Mohammed

The CMD who addressed a news conference in Abuja on Saturday explained that the governor was brought to the hospital at 8pm on Friday without any life-threatening injuries.

According to him, Wada was immediately taken to the theatre after his injuries had been ascertained and explained to him  to undergo what sources described as  Inter-locking nail surgical procedure.

“When the governor was brought in at 8pm, we were told he was involved in a car accident and we checked him and explained the nature of his injuries to him. We also told him about our ability to manage his injuries. He had a broken thigh and was taken to the theatre. The governor has since stabilized and he had a nice night; he said he would not be taken abroad for treatment because he has confidence in our capacity to manage him.

There is no immediate need to fly him abroad,”Ogedengbe stated.

The doctor could however not give the possible date when the patient would be discharged, saying Wada needed time to recuperate.

He said, “the governor is quite happy to take treatment here; the treatment is ongoing. He needs some days in the hospital and I can’t give a date of discharge now.”

Findings at the hospital indicates that the surgical procedure performed on governor Wada on Friday night would enable him regain the full use of the affected part of his legs, with interlocking nails.

The use of the interlocking nails procedure would entail intramedullary pin secured in position by proximal and distal transfixing screws which engage the bone to the nail to provide axial bending and torsional stability.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Jacob Edi stated that the news conference was meant to dispel speculation and give the public the right information on Wada’s health.

He said that the governor was taken to Kogi Specialist Hospital after the auto crash and was brought to Abuja for better management, adding that Wada was in better shape in the morning.

“The governor is in a stable condition. I was here with him throughout the night and we shook hands this morning. Capt. Wada insisted that he won’t be flown abroad for treatment; he said he believes in the competence of Nigerian doctors,” Edi said.

Also, Vice President Nnamdi Sambo led the number of political heavy weights that has visited governor’s Wada’s bedside.

Others include, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Ayim,, Governor Ayo Fayemi of Ekiti State, former PDP national chairman, Dr Ahmadu Ali, Taraba Deputy Governor, among others.
