Sixteen people suspected to have had a hand in the abduction of Nollywood actress and Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Public Affairs, Nkiruka Sylvanus, have been arrested, the Imo State Police Command said on Wednesday.
According to Vitalis Onugu, the public Relations Officer of the state police, the suspects were apprehended in a raid an invasion of forest hideouts suspect to belong kidnappers.
“They are already assisting the Police in its investigation,” he said.
Sylvanus was abducted late Saturday night by gun-wielding men who camouflaged in Police uniforms but drove a Sports Utility Jeep (SUV) policemen might not have had access to.
One of her colleagues already confirmed that her kidnappers have been in touch with a ransom demand.
Once a tool employed by Niger Delta militants in the South-South to fleece oil workers of hard currency in protest of years of degradation and neglect in the region, kidnapping in the country has steadily grown into an all-encompassing thriving business, as abductors now targeting political office holders and rich businessmen in various parts of the country.
