Chairman and principal owner of leading telecommunication firm, Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr, has donated a sum of N500m to the Bayelsa State Government in support of its relief efforts to victims of the recent flooding in the state.

Adenuga presented a draft cheque to Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson in Abuja on Tuesday, saying he was moved to make the donation by the sufferings of victims of the tragedy, considering its magnitude and devastation on the people and the state.

He praised the efforts of the state and federal governments in cushioning the blow of floods and expressed hope that his contribution would render further meaning to those efforts.

Governor Dickson received the cheque on behalf of a high-powered delegation he led to the Abuja the residence of the billionaire and was full of praises and appreciation.

He thanked Adenuga for his deep concern and love for the people of Bayelsa and promised that that the money would be judiciously used with donations from other public-spirited individuals, corporate bodies and donor agencies, locally and internationally.

He revealed that he had only recently set up a high-powered Committee on Post-Flood Management, chaired by former National Security Adviser, General Andrew Owoye Azazi and comprising other respected and credible persons — a move he described as underscoring the resolve and commitment of his administration to ensuring that monies donated towards the cause are well-utilised to the benefit of the intended beneficiaries.
