Against political pundits’ imagination, Huhuonline.com can disclose that Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state today dissolved the state Executive Council. The dissolution is coming barely 24 hours after the Governor Oshiomhole presented a budget proposal of N150 billion to the state House of Assembly.
It was learnt that there had been apprehension since last week when the Commissioners, who are also members of the state executive council got wind of the news.
A dependable source in Edo state explained to Huhuonline.com that the commissioners and other political office holders received the news with great shock, as they were not anticipating that they would all be sacked.
“Many of them, including me, thought the Governor would select those to work with him among the Commissioners. You know they were the same people he used during his first term.
“He wants to get new people to work with him and we just hope that he would reconsider some of us.
“As I talk with you, we are at the valedictory session for all the sacked members of cabinet,” the source said.
At a valedictory session held in Benin City, the Edo state capital, the Governor praised Commissioners for making his first term worthwhile saying they performed excellently throughout the period.
Oshiomhole said throughout the four years, they worked together in peace, argued, debated, even sometimes disagreed over issues but at the end, all these efforts gave him a pass mark.
“We have provided a collective leadership to the people of Edo State. We have served them diligently with all our hearts.
“You are the least paid Commissioners in the country, but that did not dampen your morale to put in your best efforts. I want to thank you very much for what God has used you to do for me and your state.”
He added that the valedictory session was held to appreciate the commissioners.
“On Sunday, I recognise it will be full time for the first tenure of this administration and when it is full time, no matter how interesting the game is, the referee must blow the whistle and end the game.
“The life of this Council comes to an end on Sunday, not today, because that is when the end of the first tenure of this administration will come to an end, so you are still commissioners even after this statement till 11:59pm Sunday.”
In his reaction, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Osagie Obayuwana, who spoke on behalf of the cabinet members, thanked the Governor for giving them the opportunity and the freedom to serve the state.
He described the experience of working with Governor Adams Oshiomhole as a school of leadership for the members, which was defined by the highest level of congeniality.
He also described the Executive Council as one of the best in the country.
